Maddy, Jami, and Jody with Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner at Bob Feller's Museum in Van Meter, Iowa . Mr. Kiner was a pleasure to meet. We had this former Pirates Slugger autograph a replica of his home jersey. Kiner led the NL in HR's from 1946-1952. As a young hitter he would study the swing of Babe Ruth frame by frame and styled his swing after the Great Bambino.

Ann will be speaking at Iowa Western Community College today. We will be sharing a brief history on the N.G.B.L. and WWII era baseball and exhibiting select pieces from the collection including an American League ball signed by Hall of Fame legend Ted Williams.

Back From Kansas City

We went to see the Royals play Toronto in K.C. on Friday the 10th of August. The Royals lost a close one 2-1 but we had a GREAT time! Here are some of the highlights.

Before the game we went to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum!

We bought four tokens to the little "K" and Jami was right in his element. He used two tickets before the game and much later in the night used the remaining two tickets. Would you know after a super nacho and a code red Mountain Dew he came back to hit behind a 12 yr. old who stood in line jawing about how many homeruns he was going to hit. Jami stood in silence just gazing out onto the miniature diamond as if it were a dream come true.

"Have fun Jame, hit that ball out in front of you." is all I said (I don't know if he even heard me) he was in a different world. It was now dark out and he was tired but TWO of his ten hits sailed over the left field fence 90+ feet!

And that kid twice his age????

Jami just had fun.

We were lucky enough to get a foul ball that Royals slugger Billy Butler hit. When we stayed after the game to get autographs he signed the ball and his rookie card!

We ate at George Brett's on Saturday and it was really good! There were a lot of cool artifacts from Brett's carreer there.

Just to the right of Brett's '85 Gold Glove award is the ball from his first hit.

Left of his replica statue outside of the stadium is the ball from his 3,000th hit!

Jami took a picture by the Jersey and bat George used to record his 3,000th hit!

Meeting our Royals at Gloves for Kids Event!

We attended the Royals Gloves For Kids Event in Leawood, KS on June 11. We gave a donation toward the purchase of new ball gloves for inner city youth.

We got to meet and get autographs of some of our Royals!

We told David DeJesus we watch him all the time on RSTN (Royals Sports Television Network) and he replied to the kids he can hear their cheers! They were a good group of guys and the whole event was a real good time!

UNDERWOOD SECOND GRADE LEARNS ABOUT NEGRO LEAGUE HISTORY!

We visited Mrs. Urban's 2nd grade class at Underwood Elementary today! We shared the history of Negro League Baseball by telling them stories and folklore of many former greats!

They saw vintage photographs of Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard, Cool Papa Bell and many other players, a replica Monarchs wool hat, and even had a chance to try on a vintage baseball glove!

They learned a little more about:

Why there was such a league as the Negro League.
Why Josh Gibson was called "The Black Babe Ruth"
How fast "Cool Papa" Bell was and how he got his nickname
What "clowning" was
How the Negro League changed todays game

We hope they enjoyed our visit as much as we did!

For six fleeting days, Target stores nationwide provided collectors the opportunity to purchase limited edition 2006 Topps Factory sets that included a special Mickey Mantle relic card.

The sets were available from November 26, through December 2. The traditional 664-card base set was accompanied by one of four Mickey Mantle relics. The relics originated from one black and one red and one white casual shirt along with a 1970s-inspired black and white checkered suit. All three pieces were obtained directly from the Mantle estate which has an exclusive licensing deal with Topps.

Stan Bahnsen comes back to his hometown of Council Bluffs, Iowa!

We met Stan Bahnsen!!!!! Mr. Bahnsen signed a Major League ball for us and inscribed it 1968 A.L. R.O.Y.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had the pleasure of meeting Stan at Trinity Luthern School on Sat. Aug. 12th. He signed autographs for those on hand and raised money by free will donation. The Marsh Collection was happy to make a donation and meet Mr. Bahnsen, a true gentleman of baseball.

We have accumulated many historical items such as original seats from Municipal Stadium in Kansas City where Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, and many former K.C. Monarch greats played. The original glove and spikes used by Ann Kmezich in the National Girls Baseball League, early examples of baseball cards from the turn of the 20th century and a napkin signed by Joe Dimaggio at his restraunt during his playing days are part of the permanent collection, as well as an autographed George Brett game used bat from 1990. Much could be pondered about these articles from the past, all having HISTORICAL significance, yet much more than that is their story.

"It Started in 1988. I bought my first pack of Topps cards (when they used to put gum inside). Now we currently produce licensed memorabilia for former professional players of the Negro League, and the National Girls Baseball League. We've given brief lectures on WWII baseball, professional women's baseball, and the Negro Leagues to a spectrum of audiences ranging from grade school classes through college. Did Bob Gibson Play there?
It has been told by many good ol’ boys that Hall of Fame pitcher
Bob Gibson once played on the historic diamond in Southwest Iowa.
My Grandfather, Keith Gunderson, said “Yeah, I caught him – he was wild.”
I had a chance meeting with Mr. Gibson in 2000 and asked him the fabled question, “Did you ever play in Beebeetown, Iowa?” He replied, “Haven’t heard that in years. Yes – played there when I was about 13 years old.”
Folklore became fact that day, and my Grandfather’s tale – a legend.
